Databricks Leverages NVIDIA Full Stack to Accelerate Innovative AI Applications
At a significant summit, NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang and Databricks CEO Ali Ghodsi announced the integration of NVIDIA's accelerated computing capabilities with Databricks Photon, Databricks' fast data processing tool designed to deliver the highest performance and cost savings for Databricks SQL.
Huang emphasized that accelerated computing and generative AI are the two most important technology trends today. He stated, "NVIDIA and Databricks will collaborate to combine our skills in these areas and bring them to everyone."
NVIDIA has spent five years developing a library suite to accelerate Photon, enabling users to process data faster, save costs, and consume significantly less energy.
Collaboration to Enhance Data Processing
Ghodsi expressed excitement about the partnership, stating, "We are thrilled to work with NVIDIA to leverage GPU acceleration on the Photon engine to enhance core data processing and run it on NVIDIA GPUs."
Launching Creative AI Factories with NVIDIA NIM
Additionally, NVIDIA and Databricks announced that Databricks' open-source model DBRX is now available as a NVIDIA NIM microservice, hosted on the NVIDIA API catalog. The NVIDIA NIM inference microservices provide models in pre-built container form, fully optimized for deployment anywhere.
Huang explained, "Creating these endpoints is very complex. We have optimized everything into a microservice that runs on any cloud and on-premises." This microservice significantly increases enterprise developer productivity by providing a simple, standardized way to add generative AI models to applications.
The Future of Artificial Intelligence
Launched in March, DBRX is fully built on Databricks and trained with NVIDIA DGX Cloud, a scalable end-to-end AI platform for developers. Organizations can customize DBRX with enterprise data to create high-quality, proprietary models or use it to build a mixture of custom DBRX-style expert models as a reference architecture.
Huang encourages everyone to join the trend of accelerated data processing and generative AI. He said, "Whatever you do, just start—you have to get on this extremely fast-moving train. Generative AI is growing exponentially, and you don’t want to wait and watch this trend because, in a few years, you will be left far behind."
