Ho Chi Minh City Allocates 350 Billion VND to Eliminate Traffic "Black Spots"

Post Date : Tuesday, May 21, 2024

Ho Chi Minh City will invest 350 billion VND to upgrade and eliminate areas frequently congested and prone to traffic accidents, including sections of National Highway 50, Provincial Road 15, the underpass at Phu Huu Bridge, and the Kenh Te Bridge frontage road.

This plan was approved by the 10th session of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council on the morning of May 19, following a proposal from the city’s People's Committee on enhancing traffic capacity and ensuring traffic safety.

According to the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, several roads in the city are narrow, often flooded, lack essential facilities and traffic signals, and are currently accident-prone areas, posing risks to road users.

With the funding approved by the People's Council, the city will renovate and upgrade the section of National Highway 50 from Nguyen Van Linh to Street No. 10, which is 870 meters long and 11 meters wide.

Provincial Road 15 from Nguyen Van Kha to Ben Co and from Rach Son Bridge to Cu Chi District's Martyrs' Cemetery will also be renovated and upgraded. This section has a total length of nearly 4.8 kilometers and a road width of 11 meters. Rach Son Bridge will also be renovated and widened.

The underpass at Phu Huu Bridge near Lien Phuong Roundabout in Thu Duc City will be renovated, covering 600 meters in length and 8.85 meters in width.

The city will build a new frontage road for Kenh Te Bridge (in District 7), which will be 1.5 kilometers long and 9 meters wide; and construct two pedestrian bridges, one on National Highway 1K near Xuan Truong Secondary School (Thu Duc City) and the other on Provincial Road 8 in front of Trung Phu High School (Cu Chi District).

Traffic signal systems will be installed at 76 intersections throughout the city.

The entire project, managed by the Road Traffic Infrastructure Management Center, will be implemented over two years, from 2024 to 2026. The city aims to reduce congestion, eliminate traffic accident black spots, and facilitate easier travel for residents upon completion of the project.

At this session, city council representatives also approved a proposal to waive fees for five types of online public services, including civil status registration, work permits for foreigners working in Vietnam, business registration, land use rights certificates, house and land-related asset ownership certificates, and construction permits.

According to regulations, these five types of fees fall under the jurisdiction of the city council. From 2020 to 2023, these fees generated between 33 billion and 46 billion VND annually for the city’s budget. Waiving these fees is expected to reduce the city's budget revenue by 43-45 billion VND annually.
