Breaking news: The high-speed 350 km/h metro line connecting District 7 and Can Gio is expected to start construction soon and is considered a “golden breakthrough” that could elevate Can Gio into an international coastal city.
Ho Chi Minh City is undergoing a historic transformation in transportation infrastructure as a new metro project linking District 7 and Can Gio is set to be implemented, expected to unlock the massive development potential of the southern region.
The project is proposed by VinSpeed (a subsidiary of Vingroup), with a total length of approximately 48.5 km. It starts from Nguyen Van Linh Boulevard in District 7 and ends at the Can Gio reclaimed coastal urban area (Vinhomes Green Paradise). The line includes two main stations, Tan Thuan and Can Gio, along with a dedicated cable-stayed bridge crossing the Soai Rap River.
In terms of technical specifications, the metro is designed for speeds of up to 350 km/h, making it the fastest metro system in Vietnam and roughly three times faster than Metro Line 1 (Ben Thanh – Suoi Tien).
The project is expected to begin construction in Q4/2025 and enter operation in early 2028. The total investment is estimated at USD 2.93 billion (around VND 76 trillion), implemented under a public-private partnership (PPP) model. VinSpeed is responsible for the main construction funding, while the government handles land clearance and site preparation.
The project is expected to create major strategic impacts, including reducing travel time between District 7 and Can Gio to 15–20 minutes, improving connectivity with highways, airports, and ports, boosting coastal tourism, developing the maritime economy, and stimulating the southern real estate market.
Within this context, Vinhomes Green Paradise (Can Gio) is expected to be the biggest beneficiary. Covering approximately 2,870 hectares, it is projected to become one of the most attractive coastal satellite urban areas in southern Vietnam with strong long-term appreciation potential.
Overall, this metro project is not only a transportation development but also a strategic symbol of Ho Chi Minh City’s coastal-oriented urban vision, expected to reshape the southern urban landscape.
