As part of the city’s urban infrastructure modernization plan, Ho Chi Minh City’s metro system is gradually taking shape with 8 main lines. Among them, Metro Line 3B (Cong Hoa – Hiep Binh Phuoc) stands out as a strategic link connecting eastern Saigon with surrounding satellite cities. With a total length of approximately 12.2 km, it is not only a transport project but also a symbol of smart and sustainable urban development.
The route starts from the busy Cong Hoa Roundabout, then runs underground and transitions to elevated sections through major arterial roads such as Nguyen Thi Minh Khai, Xo Viet Nghe Tinh, and National Highway 13, before ending at the Hiep Binh Phuoc depot in Thu Duc City. The line includes 10 stations in total, consisting of 8 underground stations and 2 elevated stations, offering fast, stable, and traffic-independent mobility.
The most important role of Metro Line 3B is its interprovincial connectivity between Thu Duc City (Ho Chi Minh City) and Thu Dau Mot City (Binh Duong Province). Once operational, it is expected to significantly ease congestion at key hotspots such as National Highway 13 and Pham Van Dong, while reducing travel time and boosting real estate values along the route.
Beyond transportation, the project also aims to improve quality of life by encouraging the use of high-capacity public transport, reducing air pollution and noise, and improving access to healthcare and education services. This lays an important foundation for Ho Chi Minh City’s transformation into a smart city where transportation becomes a growth driver rather than a barrier.
