New plan to improve transportation network in Thai Nguyen area

Post Date : Monday, May 13, 2024

Vietnam’s Ministry of Transport recently announced a new plan to significantly upgrade the transportation infrastructure in the Central Plains region to promote economic and social development and ensure national defense security. According to this plan, the Ministry of Transport will work closely with relevant ministries and local governments to ensure the smooth progress of land acquisition and demolition, accelerate project construction progress, and strictly control project quality.

The core of the plan is to develop highway and civil aviation systems, especially to solve the transportation bottleneck problem in the region and promote interconnection between the Central Plains region and the central and southeastern regions, so as to unleash the potential and advantages of the region.

In terms of specific implementation, the Ministry of Transport will cooperate with various localities to study and promote highway construction, airport expansion, and railway renovation and upgrade projects. In terms of management, operation, design, construction, traffic organization, road maintenance, etc., emphasis will be placed on the application of science and technology to speed up construction progress, improve project quality, reduce costs, protect the environment, and adapt to climate change. In addition, the application of new technologies and new materials will be encouraged, relevant technical standards in inspection, design, construction, acceptance, maintenance and other fields will be improved, and domestic road technical standards will be improved in accordance with ASEAN road technical standards.

At the same time, the Ministry of Transport will also promote transportation infrastructure interconnection projects between Vietnam and Mekong sub-region countries, especially in the Mekong Sub-region cooperation mechanism, the Vietnam-Laos-Cambodia Development Triangle and ASEAN countries.

According to the plan, the Ministry of Transport will complete the 180-kilometer Quy Nhon to Pleiku Expressway construction project by 2030, with an estimated total investment of approximately VND 54 trillion (equivalent to RMB 15.34 billion). It is expected that in 2027, Khanh Hoa-Buon Ma Thuot Expressway (total length of 118 kilometers, total initial investment of nearly 22 trillion VND) and Chiayi-Chen Cheng Expressway (total length of 129 kilometers, total initial investment of more than 25.5 trillion VND) will be put into operation. By 2028, the Tan Phu-Bao Loc Expressway (67 kilometers in length, with a total investment of more than 18.12 trillion VND) will be put into operation.

In addition, by 2025, the Ministry of Transport will study the inclusion of the Quang Ngai-Kon Tum Expressway in the plan and study projects on the western section of the North-South Expressway. After 2030, we will also study investment in the construction of highway sections such as Yuhui-Pleiku, Pleiku-Buon Ma Thuot, and Buon Ma Thuot-Chiayi.

In 2030, the Ministry of Transport plans to complete the reconstruction and upgrading project of National Highway 24 (Kon Tum-Ngai Ngai), with an estimated total investment of 2.5 trillion VND. At the same time, the Chamtha-Da Lat railway and the railway reconstruction project connecting Taiyuan will be completed. In terms of aviation, the upgrade and reconstruction projects of Lien Giang Airport, Pleiku Airport, and Buon Ma Thuot Airport will be completed by 2029, and the planning work of Muangdaeng Airport will be completed in 2025.
