Project Overview and Construction Progress
The elevated Ring Road 3 segment passing through Vinhomes Grand Park in Thu Duc City has entered the final construction phase after one and a half years of development. The erection of the viaduct has been completed, and contractors are currently installing pre-cast bridge beams and preparing for asphalt paving. This project is a critical component of Ho Chi Minh City's infrastructure development strategy, aimed at optimizing regional connectivity and alleviating pressure on major traffic arteries.
The elevated bridge section spans 1 kilometer and belongs to the XL3 package, starting from the Trao Trảo Bridge in Long Thạnh Mỹ Ward and ending at Phước Thiện Road in Long Bình Ward. Upon completion, this section will feature four lanes with a width ranging from 19.5 to 21.5 meters, adhering to modern urban traffic standards.
The viaduct deck employs pre-cast concrete box girders, each measuring 38 meters in length and weighing up to 80 tons. These girders are installed using precise hoisting techniques, requiring meticulous coordination among engineers to ensure dynamic load control, thermal expansion adjustment, and structural durability. The viaduct is designed as a continuous girder structure to minimize deflection and reduce internal stress.
The installation of pre-cast girders necessitates precise coordination between engineers and workers to maintain appropriate expansion joint spacing and prevent external forces from compromising structural stability. Each girder installation takes between 2 to 5 hours, with precise alignment adjustments playing a crucial role in ensuring overall bridge deck consistency.
To prevent foundation settlement, bridge piers have been reinforced using bored pile foundation techniques, with cement grouting applied to enhance load-bearing capacity. Additionally, advanced settlement prevention techniques, such as lime-cement columns and geotextile reinforcement, have been employed to adapt to Ho Chi Minh City's unique geological conditions, ensuring long-term structural stability.
Constructing an elevated roadway in densely populated residential areas requires strict control of noise, dust, and vibration to minimize disruption to communities. Contractors have implemented measures such as dust barriers, restricted nighttime construction, and vibration-damping materials to enhance construction safety and reduce adverse effects on residents.
Ring Road 3 is a vital component of the regional transportation network, spanning 90 kilometers and connecting Ho Chi Minh City with Binh Duong, Dong Nai, and Long An provinces. The 14.7-kilometer elevated section plays a crucial role in the development of transportation corridors, significantly reducing congestion on existing major highways such as Hanoi Highway, National Route 1, and the Ho Chi Minh City – Long Thanh – Dau Giay Expressway.
The completion of this project will not only shorten travel time between provinces but also foster economic and social development. Ring Road 3 will enhance connectivity between industrial zones, ports, and Long Thanh International Airport, further stimulating the real estate market and enabling the formation of satellite cities to alleviate population pressure in central Ho Chi Minh City.
Additionally, the roadway creates investment opportunities in infrastructure, facilitates the establishment of logistics hubs, and optimizes the supply chain within the southern economic region. This improves transportation efficiency and supports Ho Chi Minh City and its neighboring provinces in achieving sustainable development strategies.
The elevated Ring Road 3 in Ho Chi Minh City is not just a critical transportation project but also a transformative factor in urban spatial restructuring and regional economic development. The project incorporates various advanced technologies, adhering to high standards from design to construction. Upon completion, it will become a key strategic infrastructure asset, contributing to the long-term development of Ho Chi Minh City and its surrounding areas.
