SAP and NVIDIA Collaborate to Create AI for 'Most Valuable Language,' CEOs Announce at Sapphire Orlando
SAP, the leading German cloud computing company, is leveraging generative AI and industrial digital twins to develop next-generation enterprise applications for its customers.
At SAP's Sapphire event in Orlando, Florida today, NVIDIA and SAP announced their efforts in generative AI with NVIDIA AI Enterprise software, introducing two new capabilities for Joule, SAP's generative AI assistant: SAP Advisory and ABAP Developer capabilities.
To streamline the sales process for complex products, SAP is also integrating NVIDIA Omniverse Cloud APIs into its Intelligent Product Recommendation solution. This integration will allow sales personnel to visualize 3D digital products within SAP's Intelligent Product Recommendation. NVIDIA Omniverse, based on OpenUSD, enables users to simulate how configurable equipment can fit and operate in the real world, saving time and costs while improving efficiency and safety.
These advancements follow the companies' AI-focused collaboration announced at GTC in March.
“One of the most remarkable breakthroughs in large language models and generative AI is our ability to learn representations of almost every language,” said NVIDIA Founder and CEO Jensen Huang via video link at the SAP Sapphire conference. “In our company, the most valuable language is CUDA. At SAP, the most valuable language is ABAP.”
“We have created some amazing generative APIs that understand SAP's language, the language of supply chains, the language of ERP systems, so we have an expert, an agent, and AI to help us do everything we want to manage our business,” said SAP CEO Christian Klein.
NVIDIA AI Accelerates Joule, SAP’s Innovative AI Assistant
Joule, embedded within SAP’s portfolio of cloud solutions and applications, allows users to work faster while gaining smarter insights based on business data. At SAP Sapphire, the company announced new advisory capabilities for Joule, leveraging NVIDIA NeMo Retriever microservices.
NVIDIA NeMo Retriever connects AI applications with proprietary data to drive Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG). This brings business domain expertise and knowledge into the LLM, enabling AI copilots and code assistants to provide more accurate and relevant responses.
With new AI-powered SAP Advisory capabilities—connected to 200,000 pages of SAP learning content, help documents, product documentation, and community content—tens of thousands of SAP consultants can work more efficiently while accessing the latest product and process details when working with end customers. Joule's SAP Advisory capabilities are currently being previewed by internal SAP consultants and leading system integrators.
NVIDIA-powered AI will also support over 5 million developers using SAP's ABAP programming language. SAP's custom model, trained on more than 250 million lines of proprietary ABAP code using NVIDIA HGX H100 systems, will be deployed using NVIDIA NIM inference microservices for optimal runtime performance. Joule’s ABAP Developer capabilities can help developers create, refine, and interpret code and generate unit tests, allowing them to spend more time building and deploying features rather than manually writing code.
As announced at GTC 2024, this NVIDIA AI Enterprise software, including NeMo and NIM, is expected to be accessible in the generative AI center within SAP AI Core for developers and customers to leverage.
Omniverse Optimizes Sales Processes for Complex Products
By using NVIDIA AI and Omniverse, SAP is shaping the future of connectivity and reimagining critical business processes, including sales processes for manufacturers.
The SAP Intelligent Product Recommendation software uses generative AI to analyze requirements described in natural language and generate recommendations for the most suitable configurable products. With Omniverse Cloud APIs integrated into the application, users can then interact with physically accurate models of complex products in a digital twin of the environment where they will be installed. This enables sales teams to create quotes faster and helps sales representatives recommend the best solutions for customers' needs.
Additionally, SAP Intelligent Product Recommendation can use NVIDIA AI to analyze text from multiple sources, including emails and notes recorded in customer relationship management software or product specification documents. This allows the software to generate recommendations based on key customization parameters, such as power requirements, delivery times, and expected carbon emissions.
