Representatives believe that once officially put into operation, Metro Line 1 will help Ho Chi Minh City solve many urban development problems.

On the morning of April 26, Ho Chi Minh City organized a full line experience tour of Metro Line 1 (Bến Thành - Suối Tiên). VIP guests of this experience include leaders of foreign representative agencies in Ho Chi Minh City, representatives of media organizations in the city, especially some veterans who have returned from Điện Biên Phủ.

Before the train started running, Ho Chi Minh City Deputy Mayor Bùi Xuân Cường introduced the Metro Line 1 project to the participants. This full-line trial operation is of special significance because it is held to commemorate the 49th anniversary of the liberation of the South, the reunification of the country, and the 138th anniversary of International Labor Day.

Deputy Mayor Cường also believes that through the experience of Metro Line 1, the representatives will have a better understanding of the future transportation development direction of Ho Chi Minh City. The experience meeting is a special opportunity because Ho Chi Minh City hopes to hear the opinions of representatives to further improve the passenger experience on Line 1.

He said that Ho Chi Minh City is preparing to put Metro Line 1 into operation and start construction of Line 2. In addition, the city is focusing on improving the development plan of the urban rail transit system, which is expected to be basically completed by 2035. He said this is a stage when Ho Chi Minh City greatly needs technical support to improve the capabilities of train drivers and operating stations. Therefore, he hopes that the consuls general of various countries in Ho Chi Minh City can help connect the city with international partners so that Line 1 can operate efficiently in accordance with international standards.

Indonesian Consul General in Ho Chi Minh City Agustaviano Sofjan said he was very happy to see that Ho Chi Minh City’s Metro Line 1 is about to be completed. Line 1 is a very important project that brings many conveniences to local residents and tourists. He said Line 1 will play an important role in the development of Ho Chi Minh City in the future and is also an environmentally friendly public transportation method. "Other countries in Southeast Asia can learn from Ho Chi Minh City's experience in building Metro Line 1 and apply it to their own countries." - Agustaviano Sofjan said.

Kho Ngee Seng Roy, Consul General of Singapore who participated in the experience, felt that the trip was very smooth and comfortable. He believes that once fully operational, Metro Line 1 will completely change the urban landscape of Ho Chi Minh City. Line 1 will not only make travel more convenient for residents, but will also solve the serious traffic congestion problem currently faced by Ho Chi Minh City.

Trần Quang Triệu, a veteran of Điện Biên Phủ (former deputy commander of the 4th Corps), feels that Metro Line 1 reflects the economic development of the country, especially Ho Chi Minh City. He believes that once Line 1 is officially put into service, it will solve the traffic congestion problem. The quality of life of residents will also be improved by becoming more civilized and modern. He hopes that Ho Chi Minh City will have more subway lines in the future so that residents can use this modern public transportation.

According to Nguyễn Quốc Hiển, deputy director of MAUR, during this train operation, the trains on Metro Line 1 were fully prepared and operated in accordance with the automatic operation mode ATO/ATP. The trial operation of the ATO/ATP model is aimed at improving and integrating the signaling system, station gates, information systems, etc. for the last time.

Urban rail transit requires a special legal framework

In order to enable Ho Chi Minh City to have 200 kilometers of urban rail transit, five sets of mechanism recommendations have been put forward. Experts recommend setting up an urban rail transit development group in Ho Chi Minh City. Hiển also said that in parallel with the trial operation, practical training for employees is also being carried out. After completing the practical training, the Line 1 project will enter the trial operation stage, which is expected to last for 2 months, and then officially operate in the fourth quarter of this year. He pointed out that there is already a need for urban development in the direction of high-capacity public transport and rapid transit (TOD). Many TOD areas have been formed along Metro Line 1, especially around the stations in District 1, Binh Thanh District and Thu Duc City. High-rise buildings have been built in these areas to provide residents with easy access to the stations. "The TOD model of urban development is an integrated and mutually supportive process that aims to solve urban planning, beautification issues and development issues and create resources for urban infrastructure." - Hiển emphasized.
